Glo Nigerian Premier League runners-up, Warri Wolves FC on Wednesday defeated Federation Cup winners, Akwa United FC of Uyo 1-0 in the opener of the 2015/2016 Glo premier League Super four taking place at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna.

Efforts by the Federation Cup winners to score were undid by their blunt attack, as they missed glaring chances in both halves.

Despite their domination of the game, the Akwa Ibom side were unable to equalise the goal as Warri Wolves were resolute in defending the goal till the end of the game to lead the four teams on the Super four log pending the determination of other matches.

Akwa United will have the opportunity of redeeming their image when they meet Premier League Champions, Enyimba FC of Aba tomorrow (Friday evening). While Warri Wolves play Nasarawa United same day.

“Akwa tried to play good football but we received four yellow cards, which was disastrous. It is a good lesson for the team we missed top striker because the striker that played for us missed two to three chances.”

WarrI Wolves Coach, Sam Okpodu said that despite the victory the team showed several weaknesses that they are still going g to work on ahead of the Premier League season and continental outing. “We still have a lot of work to do in all the departments, we will work to improve the team.”
