The Victims Support Fund (VSF) in partnership with the Yobe State Government has said that it will expend about 130 million Naira on the construction and renovation of skills acquisition centres across nine Yobe communities to restore the livelihood of the victims of Boko Haram affected communities.
The Chairman of the fund, General Theophilus Danjuma represented by the Executive Director, Professor Nana Tanko, expressed this dwhile flagging off the foundation laying of the centres across three local government areas areas of Fika, Gujba and Gulnai.
“We have worked in several communities for several groups. For example, in Gadaka we supported children with educational materials, children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency to find families that would take good care of them”
“Also, we set-up saving and loans associations for women working in similar areas of economic activities. The amazing thing we have the capacity to expend the little money that we have to do so good”
“The whole of the budget we are spending in this 9 communities for this intervention is about a little less than 130 million naira but the impact is more” she said.
The Head of Programmes for Victims Support Fund, Andrew Shemba explained that skills acquisition centres, renovation of computer centres, construction of oil and mill processing centres would be undertaken IN Fika, Gujba and Gulani local government areas of the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the state, represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs, Mister Kaku Jawi commended VSF for intervening positively on the lives of the nine communities.
He revealed that the support by the fund will go a long way in complementing the efforts of the state government towards post insurgency recovery.
The Secretary of Gudi Emirate council who spoke in Gadaka on behalf of the Emir and the beneficiaries of the intervention in the area thanked the VSF and sought for more intervention especially the victims of conflict.
