Visually Impaired Persons Elect New Leaders In Kaduna

The visually impaired persons under the National Association of Blind Persons (NABP), Kaduna State Chapter, has elected new leaders to run the affairs of the association for another period of four years.The election which took place on Saturday at the Kaduna Rehabilitation Board,
was conducted successfully, while various delegates of the (NABP) across the 23 local government areas of the state were present to cast their votes in respect of their choice.
While declaring the winners, the electoral chairman, Malam Musa Sambo Zaria, declared Mr. Jerry Mathew as the newly elected chairman, after he defeated the incumbent, Malam Haruna Abubakar.

Ibrahim Abubakar emerged as the Vice Chairman.


In addition, the incumbent Secretary, Mr. Isaac Joseph and the assistant Sec. Malam Ahmad Shafi’u both remained unopposed along with the three newly elected Zonal coordinators. Umar M Sani emerged as the new PRO, Aisha Musa as Treasurer, Amina Usman as Woman Leader, while Yusuf Sha’aibu is the newly elected Youth Leader.
Malam Sambo, who’s also a lecturer and Head of Department of Special Persons with Disability at Federal College of Education (FCE) Zaria, expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct, despite the little challenges and errors made during the election, while charging the newly elected Exco’s to discharge their duties with passion and fear of God.
In his remarks, the executive secretary Kaduna State Rehabilitation Board, Malam Aliyu Haruna Yakasai, described the election process and conduct as successful, being free, fair and peaceful, urging that such should be replicated during subsequent activities.
According to him, the visually impaired person’s election happens to be the second inspiring election he’s observing, hence it is well managed and peaceful, and also applauded the members for conducting a credible hitch free election considering most of the delegates are from different local Governments of the State.
While appreciating the exercise, the Zonal coordinator North-East, Malam Halliru Usman, tasked the newly elected Exco members to be good ambassadors of the visually impaired persons by being good representatives of the people’s mandate and exploring more opportunities for the Blinds in the state.
Also, Yohana Ishaku Dangana one of the newly elected executives as zone 3 coordinator, expressed excitement over the successful conduct, while pleading with the NABP members to be supportive to the newly elected leaders of the association for a progressive and smooth running leadership.
