Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung has observed that unless there is a change in the life style of youths, the country will continue to be haunted by social vices and insecurity.
It is for this reason, he said, the Federal Government set aside a whooping N500 billion that could be used to improve the quality of life of restive youths in the country.
The Minister who was represented by his political adviser, Hon. Mai Wada Dan Mallam at an occasion in Bauchi, said he would see to the possibility for the establishment of National Youths Empowerment Fund advocated by Professor Aliyu Jibia.
Professor Aliyu Jibia of the Bayero University, Kano, had earlier at the 5th Anniversary of Talaka Awareness Initiative held weekend in Bauchi, advocated for the establishment of the fund to cater for the needs of youths in the country.
Dan Mallam told the occasion that he would equally advice the Minister to collaborate with members of the National Assembly towards the passage of a bill for the establishment of the National Youths Empowerment Fund.
Dan Mallam who attributed the insurgency bedeviling parts of the country today to youths restiveness, however expressed optimism that when the fund become a reality, social vices and insecurity problems associated with the youths will be a thing of the past.
He also opined that should Nigerian youths who are leaders of tomorrow be left with the present trend of restiveness and social vices, it will be a depiction of their future leadership of the country.
Also speaking at the occasion, former Nigerian Ambassador to Libya, Professor Dan Datti Abdulkadir said the choice of Bauchi for the event become imperative as it was the place where social crusade in Africa started dating back to 1941 under the tutelage of Late Mallam Sa’ad Zungur .
Professor Abdulkadir explained that the fifth anniversary of Talaka Awareness Initiative (Muryar Talaka) is being celebrated on its cradle established in Bauchi in 1941 under the name ‘Bauchi Discussion Circle’ spearheaded by social crusader Sa’ad Zungur.
He enumerated founders of the Bauchi Discussion Circle as Late Ahmad Mahmoud, Sa’ad Zungur, Late Mallam Aminu Kano, Late Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Late Mallam Yahaya Gusau, Late Dr. R.K.B Dikko, and Late Abubakar Annafuti.
Abdulkadir, also a one-time Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, further explained that the organization ‘Bauchi Discussion Circle’ was formed with the sole objectives of fighting tyranny and poverty, and emancipation of the down-trodden masses.
Professor Dan Datti described Bauchi as the first among equals in the struggle for the emancipation of Nigerian masses (talakawa), an appendage later emulated by late Herbert Macaulay in Lagos and late Kwame Nkurmah in Ghana.
He called on the Bauchi State Government to immortalize the founders of the Bauchi Discussion Circle namely Late Mallam Sa’ad Zungur, Late Mallam Aminu Kano, Late Mallam Yahaya Gusau, Late Dr. R.K.B Dikko, Late Abubakar Annafuti, and Late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa for future leaders to follow their footsteps.
Dan Datti maintained that the political evolution of Nigeria and indeed Africa started on the cradle of Bauchi Discussion Circle under the leadership of late Mallam Sa’ad Zungur, Secretary General of the defunct political party NCNC.
