Kaduna State Government has said it saves seventeen million naira monthly from the education sector due to the much criticised verification exercise it embarked on to ascertain it actual workforce while vowing to sustain the newly introduced free primary school feeding programme.
The Sate Commissioner for Education, Dr Shehu Usman Danfulani made this disclose while speaking with journalists in Kaduna.
Danfulani said before now, that amount of money was going to private pockets through non existing workforce who were placed on the pay role and used to defraud the state of millions of naira annually.
He revealed that currently, 5,264 teachers get their salaries monthly without any hitches.
On the free school uniform for primary school pupils, the Commissioner assured that the programme is on course and pupils will get the uniform as the tailors handling the project deliver.
He called on the tailors handling the mass production to ensure all their bank details are correct and made available to the ministry for easy payment of their money.
On the legal challenge by an individual on the free school programme, the Commissioner said the government is ready for him and would meet him in court and match him legally. He stressed that despite all the criticism in the public domain on the programme, the government is poised to sustain it.
Asked on what the government is doing to ensure the explosion in pupils enrolment due to the free feeding is better managed as pupils now receive lectures under trees and sit on bare floor, Danfulani said the school renovation is on course and supply of furnitures would continue.
