The Project Manager, Rise Up, Benjamin Yunana Maigari while giving an overview of the project, said the meeting is meant to get commitment from the community and CSOs for the implementation of the project to end Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
He expressed this at a town hall meeting organised by the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) at the Arewa House, Kaduna on Wednesday September 25, 2021.
The Project Manager said the project is expecting the commissioner Human Services and social development to approve the formation of Community Based Action volunteers in the state as a means of implementation of the VAPP law using the results in the pilot local government areas.
The representatives of the CSOs and traditional leaders at the meeting in seperate.goodwoll messages, pledged commitment for the success of the project.
Chief Imam, Ungwan Rimi Juma’at Mosque, Imam Tanimu Musa and Christian Association of NIgeria (CAN) Secretary Northern States, Rev Dr. Sunday Ibrahim, made brief presentations on Islamic and Christian perspectives to violence against women and girls.
They said no religion condones VAWG.
In her presentation, Barrister Amina Audi said there is no excuse for violence against women and girls as Kaduna State VAPP law has captured it and the courts will prosecute any person found wanting.
She gave a brief overview of the VAPP law and what is expected from all.
The Project Advocacy Coordinator, Mrs. Sekyen Dadik appreciated the participants for the commitment and wished them journey mercies back to the various locations.
The meeting had in attendance, CSOs, women leaders, religious and traditional leaders from 12 communities of Kajuru and Kaduna North LGAs.
Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF), with support from Rise Up, a project of the Public Health Institute of John Hopkins University and funding from Cummins, organised the stakeholders meeting.
