Few hours after nine of the royal families in Oyo town asked the  state government to discontinue the process of selecting new Alaafin of Oyo, the state has hinted that Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration Laws of the state will determine the new Alaafin of Oyo.

Oyo State Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun dropped this hint on Tuesday in Ibadan, while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council Meeting which  was held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office,  Ibadan.

The Commissioner pointed out that the state government is only committed to ensuring that the next Alaafin is someone who emerges in line with the dictates of the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration laws of the state.

Dr. Olatubosun maintained  that

the process of the selection the next Alaafin is still at the infant stage as it is still being handled at the local government level, and that ” when the task is completed at the local government level,  a report will be sent to the state government.

“As far as we are concerned, the move is a process, it has started and has not gotten to the state. It is still within the local government. Only the Chairman, Atiba local government can answer all questions yet”, he said.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde,  Mr Taiwo Adisa while speaking at the briefing, disclosed that, “the selection of Alaafin is guided by the Chieftaincy Declaration law of the state and so long the process conforms to the laws, the report will forwarded to the state level.

“The Alaafin stool and selection of the Alaafin is guided by the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration of Oyo State which was signed into law by previous government of Oyo state.

And as far as that is in operational, whatever they are doing will conform with that”, he said.

The CPS added, ” once they conform with that and bring it to the state government, that is when the governor will act on it. But as for now, the process is still at the infant stage, at the local government level.”
