Search For Oil Commences At Gongola Basin In Benue Trough

Director Community Affairs with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Yusuf Ahmed has said that the Corporation in-collaboration with BGP, a Chinese company have since commenced oil exploration in the Gongola basin with the use of highly sophisticated equipment.
This, according to the director, followed the recent directive to that effect by President Muhammadu Buhari to the NNPC to commence oil exploration in the Gongola basin in earnest.
Ahmed was speaking when he led a delegation of the NNPC for a courtesy visit to the caretaker chairman of Kirfi Local Government Council, Mustapha Aliyu Cheledi in Kirfi, one of the exploration sites in the basin.
He explained that the companies have begun seismic data acquisition to enable them determine the quantity of oil in the region in addition to the already existing data.
The community affairs director therefore solicited for the support and cooperation of residents of the exploration affected areas for the success of the exercise.
The Kirfi Council Chairman, Mustapha Aliyu Cheledi had earlier described the people of the area as peace loving, and pledged to give necessary support and cooperation for the success of the exercise.
Cheledi while pledging his council’s readiness to ensure that the exercise records huge success commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the oil exploration in the north east which, he observed, will greatly improve the economy of the area and the country at large.
Alhaji Mustapha Aliyu Cheledi urged the NNPC to consider youths in Kirfi local government area while employing its workers in the on-going oil exploration project in the local government area.
Also speaking, the District Head of Kirfi, Alhaji Ladan Muhammad, Wamban Bauchi expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for reconsidering the need for the oil search in the North-east.
Wamban Bauchi who spoke through a traditional title holder, Alhaji Usman Mai-Duniya, assured of the traditional institutions readiness to continue supporting the present administration programmes and policies.
The district head appealed to those saddled with the responsibility of executing the project to be dedicated and show commitment to their assigned responsibilities, and prayed for sustenance of peace in Nigeria for the economic and social wellbeing of its people.
