Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has finally endorsed the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru as his sole gubernatorial candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Governor Umahi made this known during the funeral service of the former Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.
According to him, when it was the turn of the South in 2015, Abakaliki people gave him massive support for the sake of equity, justice and fairness which why there is peace and progress in Ebonyi State.
He appreciated the people of Ebonyi South Senatorial zone for insisting that the equation must start from the North so that when it becomes their own turn,everybody will know and also give them support saying that it is based on charter of equity.
“For the people of Ebonyi state, I present to you the next governor of Ebonyi state, in the person of the speaker of Ebonyi state House of Assembly. We want the Abakaliki people.When it is the turn of the South and Edward was contesting against me, Abakaliki people said no and stood on justice, equity and fairness and that is why we have peace in Ebonyi State.
“This is why we have development in every part of Ebonyi state; that is why we have projects going on even as we are talking, it will continue till my last day in office come may 29th 2023.
“I want to thank the people of the South who said the equation will start from the North so that when it becomes their own time,let everybody know it is the time for the South.And one thing about this platform is that we have charter of equity”, he stated.
The governor further assured that the next election in 2023 will be smoother than the previous ones noting that the issue of dichotomy has been killed in Ebonyi state.
“I want the next election to be smoother than what we had in 2019, and I want to assure you that this divine mandate will continue.
” I think by God’s grace, we have killed the issue of dichotomy in Ebonyi state so no one can bring it back.There is no one brought by God that won’t be criticized but the most important thing is that power belongs to God” he added.
The endorsement of the speaker of Ebonyi state House of Assembly as the sole candidate of APC come 2023 gubernatorial elections in Ebonyi State has also reduced tension and speculation over who succeeds Umahi in the party.
