Former Nigerian International, Nicholas Ukadike has described the recent rejection of Super Eagles job by Frenchman Paul Le Guen as a wake up call for the Nigeria Football Federation to believe in indigenous coaches.
Barely few days after, French man Le Guen had turned down the offer to handle the Super Eagles, shortly after the football house announced him as their preferred choice for the plum job,Ukadike hinted NNsports in an exclusive interview that it was wrong for the football house to have given the French man a target of qualifying the country for the 2018 World Cup which he suspected made the veteran coach reject the offer.
According to him, it is quite unfortunate that the NFF did not do their home work very well before going for the former Cameroon handler as the technical adviser of the national team. “They also made a mistake by insisting he qualifies the country for the 2018 World Cup because no coach will accept that type of condition, knowing the present condition of the national team.
The former Spartan Football Club of Owerri player, stressed that there is need for the football house to give the job to a Nigerian who understands the country’s football and players, insisting that there are many indigenous coaches that can turn around the fortune of the Super Eagles.
“I have said it several times that only an indigenous coach can turn around the fortune of the team. We have many qualified coaches in this country and if we had engaged a Nigerian to handle the team the better it would have been for now”.Ukadike concluded.
