Security operatives in Ogun State have apprehended two persons disguised as members of the Monitoring Team of the State Ministry of Health for extorting money from unsuspecting citizens.
The arrest was made possible following a tipoff by one of the victims in Lafenwa-Itele in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State, who immediately called the attention of the Police.
The victim disclosed that she offered the suspects the sum of five thousand naira, but they insisted they wanted more, claiming that they were six in number.
“I gave them the sum of five thousand naira, but they insisted the money is not enough that they were six in number, and that the money is not meant for them alone. That is when I begin to suspect that they have an ulterior motive’’, the victim said.
One of the suspects name withheld said they have been engaging in the act since 2013 with fake Identity Card, health aprons and charms.
The Deputy Director, Hospital Services, Ministry of Health, Dr. Solomon Sokunbi, said the Ministry had been trying to track down some of the suspects reportedly defrauding operators of private health facilities across the state, revealing that they had extorted their victims to the tune of N200,000.
He said investigation by the police was on-going while the two suspects remained in police custody.
