The Director Forestry and Wildlife in the Yobe State Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Garba Tahir has commended the efforts of some concerned youth in Ali Marami Housing Estate for planting about two hundred and fifteen black current trees around the newly constructed roads in the estate.
The director made the commendation on Thursday during an interview with New Nigerian Newspaper Correspondent in response to the self efforts exhibited by the concerned youth of Ali Marami Housing Estate in Damaturu the state capital.
Trees are important to every community especially in the provision of shade, food, oxygen apart from the beautifying streets, parks, playgrounds among other uses.
Trees are also beautifying the environment as well as increase quality of life by bringing natural elements to wildlife and urban settings.
Against this development, some concerned Youth embarked on voluntary self effort and planted about two hundred and fifteen black current trees for the benefit of the people of the estate.
Speaking on the initiative of the youth, the Director for forestry and wildlife ministry of Environment Garba Tahir commended the efforts of the concerned Youths deeming it needful to plant the trees in the area, where called on the public to emulate the Youths for the development of the state.
The chairman of the concerned youth, Ahmed Muhammad Amshi said the action taken was a collective decision by them to plant the trees and the idea was supported by their parents adding that one household in the area donated two hundred thousand Naira for them to commence executing the project.
Malam Musa Bulama resident of the estate prayed for Allah to reward the youth for their initiative and called on others to emulate them.
He further advised them to create a Green Environment Initiative Group to enable them continue the initiative.
According to Musa Bulama, such an initiative would bring natural elements that could provide succour to the community.
