Train Crushes Lagos Govt Staff Bus, Kills 2, Injures Many

An early morning fatal accident involving a train and a staff bus of the Lagos State Government has left two persons dead with several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

The passenger train, according to witness crushed the bus with BRT inscription at PWD junction, Ikeja area of the state and dragged it for as far as two kilometers before it eventually stopped.

Our correspondent gathered that the train was coming from Agege and met the vehicle crossing the rail to link Ikeja GRA, with the workers on board, when the incident happened.

The spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye said, “Two adult females staff of the state government dead and several injured evacuated.

“The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail,” he said.

Meanwhile, rescue workers are seriously having a very difficult time evacuating the victims.

However many of the injured victims have been rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja, which is about 500 metres away from the scene.

The accident has caused a gridlock on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway axis for motorists around Oshodi and Sogunle-Ikeja Along axis.
