Traditional Rulers Fighting Substandard Products – Bauchi Emir

Emir of Bauchi Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has described traditional leaders as key stakeholders in the fight against substandard products in the country.
Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu said, “It is only when we are in tune with what is happening around us that we can be able to know that there is fake products in our markets”.
The emir was speaking while declaring opened a sectoral stakeholders meeting organized by the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) in Bauchi with the theme, “Reduction of Substandard Goods in Nigeria”.
He stressed the need for SON to occasionally organize similar workshops for community leaders because of their strategic importance and closeness to our respective communities.  
The Emir, represented by Barden Kudu of Bauchi, Dr. Hayatu Mustapha, described the workshop as timely, and enjoined Nigerians to be vigilant in identifying substandard products around them and in market places.
SON Director General, Mr. Anthony Osita Aboloma has in a welcome address said that the objective of the workshop was to bring together stakeholders from the North East geo-political zone of the country.
“It is hoped that at the end of the workshop participants will be well informed about the activities of SON in mitigating the circulation of substandard products in our markets”, Aboloma said
Represented by the Assistant Director Operations of the organization, Alhaji Adamu Abba (Galajen Bauchi), the DG told workshop participants, “It is expected that at the end of the workshop you will be taught the various techniques of detecting substandard products”.
Aboloma, who want participants to be participatory in the workshop, expressed the hope that they would also try to proffer ways on how to curtail the presence of those products in the markets and other places.
Also speaking, Bauchi SON Coordinator, Engr. Hauwa Hussein thanked the state government, Bauchi emirate council, other traditional institutions, security agencies and the media  for the support the organization has been receiving in carrying out its mandate of mitigating the circulation of substandard products.
She said, “To our very important participants, I urge you to please put what you have learn here today into use, especially the techniques of detecting fake products and report it to our office”.
Mrs. Hauwa Hussein noted that the fight against the selling of substandard products is a collective responsibility that cannot be left alone with SON, and appealed to Nigerian consumers to shun such unwholesome products.
