The World Bank is set to disburse over N21 million to toamatoes farmers in Plateau State aimed at boosting food production locally.
So far each of the 17 Local Government is to receive 12 number tractors to bosst food production in the state under the Federal Government Tractorizaation Scheme.
This was made known while declaring open a capacity building programme for tomato production clusters in Pankshin organized by the Plateau State Fadama III additional funding development project coordinating office.
Project Coordiantor of Fadama III additional funding Project, Mr Gideon Dandam commended the Governor Simon Lalong administration for its commitment to Agriculture and food production in the state.
Management Coommittee Chairman, Pankshin Local Government, Mr Stephen Jings said the programme would soon commence, noting that already the state government and the 17 LGAs had paid 70 per cent of the cost for the tractors, which he said are on the way.
He described as timely the capacity building programme, considering the revenue accrueing from the tomatoes production.
According to him, it would be good for farmers take advantage of the programme to boost their income as well boost the economy of the council and that of the state.
“This council paid its counterpart funding to the Fadama III running into several millions of Naira.
“Our desire is to see that Pankshin is hub of Tomatoes production so as to feed the State and Nigeria as a whole” he affirmed.
