Three pregnant women die daily in Kaduna during childbirth due to poor medical facilities and dearth of personnel, the State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-rufai has said.
He made this revelation in a live programme on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kaduna.
El-rufai said the situation is unacceptable as parenthood through childbirth should be a thing of joy and not a condition that brings apprehension and eventual sadness to the family.
According to him, this prompted his resolve to have Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) within five kilometre radius of every community to reverse the trend.
He said the poor health facility and personnel in the state, just like in the education sector undergoing revamping where weekly, N300M is spent on free feeding of primary school pupils is a resolve that he is poised to see to its logical conclusion in the interest of the masses.
He stressed that in conjunction with development partners, his administration is taking steps to make the state a model in health care service delivery, facilities and personnel.
El-rufai also revealed that the daily feeding of boarding students in the state public schools which was initially pegged at N300 per head daily has been increased to N950 without bordering the parents and wards of the students to increase their counterpart payments.
He also said the state will not provide free school uniform for primary school pupils in addition to all the free things they enjoy. He stressed that the free school uniform is meant for the students in public Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) and pleaded with parents and guradians to take the responsibility of the uniform for pupils.
