Thousands of women troop out to celebrate Aisha Alhassan in Jalingo

Women in their thousands gaily dressed and in celebratory mood trooped out today in Jalingo, Taraba State capital in solidarity with the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Sen. Aisha Jummai Alhassan to celebrate her victory at the governorship election petition tribunal as well as her new position as a Minister.
Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim a prominent woman leader in the state said at the occasion that the gathering of the women which cut across religious and ethnic divide was to reaffirm their support and encouragement to Sen. Alhassan in her struggle to get back the mandate bestowed on her by the people of Taraba State.
She stressed that contrary to the insinuations being peddled by some politicians in the state that heavens would fall if and when Alhassan is sworn-in as governor of Taraba, there is unity and peaceful coexistence among the people of the state and that nothing would happen when the time comes.
“Taraba is a state where you find in each family, members belonging to different faiths but living in harmony” Hajiya Zainab stated.
In her address at the event, Mrs Ladi John who is an elderly woman from Ussa Local Government area of the state observed that those trying to fan embers of ethnicity and religion on the verdict of the tribunal were just doing so for their selfish interests.
She pointed out that the state had been governed by men who were also from a particular religion without recording any meaningful progress but were bent on retaining powered only for their selfish gains by all means.
All the speakers at the events stressed the need for continuous unity and peace in the state to provide for an enabling environment for development when Sen. Alhassan is finally sworn-in as the first female governor in Nigeria.
The women who put aside their religious and political affiliations came from various local government area of the state however urged men in the state to take a que and come together irrespective of their religious and ethnic differences to move the state forward.
