Taskforce Apprehends 210 Miscreants, Impounds 125 Motorbikes In Lagos

No fewer than 210 miscreants and street urchins were at the weekend apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce in Agege area of the state in an efforts to sanitise the state.

Similarly,  a total number of 125 motorcycles were also impounded around Iludun Town, New Oko-oba area of Agege during the exercise that lasted several hours.

The enforcement operation,  which was carried out based on complaints by different communities around the area, also witnessed the demolition of 98 illegal shanties built on drainage alignment and road set-backs.

Chairman of the Agency CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi who led the enforcement team made the  disclosure in a release made available to journalists.

According. to the release by Adebayo Taofiq, Head Public Affairs Unit, Egbeyemi confirmed that  the arrested miscreants and street urchins were those recently dislodged by the Agency along railway behind the abattoir at Agege.

Egbeyemi alleged  that the miscreants and street urchins do terrorise the communities both day and night by robbing them of their valuables such as phones, wallets and jewelleries.

“It was an eye-sore as these dislodged miscreants and street urchins were freely smoking and selling Indian hemp around residential premises where you have under age school girls and boys”

The Chairman stressed that the demolished illegal shanties and containarised shops within abattoir and adjourning streets,  aside of being on the landscape and harbouring criminals, are contributing to the under growth of health, environment and safety issues in and around Agege area.

Egbeyemi commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the upgrade of abattoirs across the State with needed infrastructural facilities particularly Agege Abattoir.

He informed that the impounded motorcycles were seized for plying restricted routes around these communities Agency during the enforcement operations.

The Chairman disclosed further that all the suspects were immediately charged to court on the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Edgal Imohimi.

According to him,  the Commissioner of Police directed further that the agency i must continue to monitor the communities against any likely re-union of other notorious miscreants and street urchins who escaped during the enforcement operations.

Egbeyemi who implored community leaders (CDAs) to be watchful of their immediate environment hinted that areas where these dislodged miscreants and street urchins carried out their nefarious activities and erected illegal shanties includes Pipeline-way, Agric Road, Olaofe Road and Mofoladayo Drives.

The Taskforce boss said CP Edgal  however vowed that the Lagos State Police Command would not relent in seeing a safe environment for every citizens within the State and the country at large.
