Taraba Villagers Kill 50 Bandits Informants, Demolish Their Houses

No fewer than 50 informants to bandit in Gassol and Bali local government areas of Taraba State have been killed following the moves by the communities to identify such elements in their midst.

The move followed the decision by the communities to form  vigilante groups who took the bulls by the horns to confront the informants and their sponsors after  repeated attacks and kidnaping of people who paid ransoms amounting to over 50 million Naira.

The traditional ruler of Wurojam Village in Gassol Local Government Area, Ahmed Musa Dundurusu explained  that the move by their communities become necessary in view of the incessant and repeated kidnapping of their people who paid nearly over 50 million Naira to the bandits.

He said the people of the villages  decided to defend themselves, following the fact that they coukd no longer  wait for the government in view of its numerous activities.

According to him, the bandits had kidnapped several personalities and demanded huge sums of money, thereby making the people to be scared of going to their farms.

Speaking on the major problems confronting the area,  the traditional ruler called on the Taraba State Government to consider the rehabilitation of the road linking the villagers and other parts of the state.

According to him,  the villages are producing large agricultural products, but regretted that there is no road to convey such products to the markets

Also speaking on the spate of insecurity in the area, a one-time portfolio councilor, Alhaji Abbas Buba said that the decisions by the people to confront the informants and the bandits in the areas became necessary, following  the increasing cases of kidnapping.

According to him, the people of the area are known  for being warriors and cannot be afraid of going about their daily  activities.

He said  that several houses belonging to the informants particularly in Gassol villages and Bali Local Government Area have been destroyed and their occupants either ran away or are being killed by the miscreants.
