Taraba farmers anticipate bumper harvest

Farmers across the sixteen local government areas of Taraba state are expecting bumper harvest this season.
New Nigerian Newspapers findings revealed that uninterrupted rainfall since the beginning of the season about three Months ago   gave the farmers good hope of bumper harvest.
It was gathered that several people in the state including civil servants engaged in farming following high cost of food items being experienced.
Some farmers interviewed expressed hope that there would be abundant food in the state as a result of heigthen farming activities.
A farmer, Mallam Yakubu Dauda told NNN that following high cost of food items, many people have taken to farming this cropping season compared to previous years.
He said though there was high cost of farm inputs such as fertilizer, pest chemical and cost of hiring tractor, that did not discouraged people from embarking on farming.
Meanwhile farmers in the state have started harvesting early maturing crops such as yams, cassava, groundnuts potatoes, maize and vegetables.
Further checks showed that prices of the harvested crops have dropped to some level across the state.
