The Ekiti State Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), located along Ilawe road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital has been reportedly attacked by some hoodlums.
The burglars who invaded the office premises on Tuesday night, were said to have made away with the property and important documents being used in the ongoing prosecution of the Ekiti 2022 governorship election at the tribunal.
The SDP Candidate in the June 18 2022, governorship election, Engr. Segun Oni is challenging outcome of the election that produced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Mr Biodun Oyebanji.
The SDP Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gani Salau briefed newsmen about the development on Wednesday at the party’s office.
The PRO who spoke with journalists in the presence of the state Chairman of the SDP, Dr Dele Ekunola, explained that the incident has been reported to the police.
“The office assistance, Joy got to know this morning and informed us. We discovered that various items and documents were carted away. At the office of the Chairman, Secretary and conference room,plasma TVsets, decoders, big extension sets and plastic chairs were taken away.
“The office of the chairman and secretary were massively vandalized, while documents being used for the ongoing Ekiti 2022 governorship election tribunal case were carted away”
He explained that “the hoodlums came inside the premises in the night through the fence ,jumped in forcefully and opened the door .
The PRO who took journalists round the offices to ascertain the incident stated that “ the most important thing is that we have informed the security who assured us of prompt action, the DPO of New Iyin road police station sent his team to conduct round the office for inspection’
He added “tribunal has started and has been adjourned. We have submitted our petition, but there are documents we didn’t submit that we are using for the prosecution ,these are the documents taken away by the hoodlums.
“ It is obvious that we are fighting a very germane case which has generated heat for the outgoing ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in the State,the outcome of the last governorship election was rejected, we are suspecting the party in power in Ekiti, we believe this was the reason the vital documents were smuggled away to mar the ongoing tribunal case .
“We are not succumbing to the reactionary forces within the system, we are going ahead with the case, we are unruffled to continue to prosecute the case to the conclusion and reclaim our mandate “he concluded.
