A support group for President Buhari’s re- election, Companions of Buhari Initiative ( CoBI), Cross River State chapter, has condemned the two months recess  embarked upon by members of the National Assembly describing it as a cog in the wheel of progress in the country.
In a statement issued in Calabar and signed by it’s Coordinator, Chief Utum Eteng said the recess was not in the interest of the nation and as such “is an act of selfish interest against the people they are representing”.
According to the statement, “one thing that is obvious to Nigerians now is that the Senator Saraki-led National Assembly has been one of the major bane of the current administration”.
“We note with deep concern, the long recess which the National Assembly has given themselves shortly after the “dramatized defections”. Two months recess at this critical time when there are many correspondences from the Presidency to the National Assembly for necessary legislative approvals, is unpatriotic and condemnable”.
It called on all well-meaning Nigerians to join in putting pressure on the Senate President and other National Assembly members to immediately cut short their recess and attend to issues of national importance including the request for election funding by INEC among others.
It noted that the recent defections, particularly in the National Assembly “can as well be described as “the explosion of the gun powder that was loaded the very day Senator Bukola Saraki entered an unholy alliance with the opposition PDP to emerge as the senate president of the 8th Assembly and handed over the deputy senate presidency to the minority party”.
It said “Saraki compromised the projections and plans of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) for selfish aims.  As the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshoimhole has put it,“water is finding levels and very soon the progressive ideals of our Party, APC will stand out more distint”.
The statement further said, “we believe the wave of defections is a mere distraction which our hardworking, committed and focused President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari should not lose sleep, over”.
“The ploy to destabilize the party and the nation has failed. It was executed upon a foundation of lies; spreading stories of having taken over majority in the National Assembly, yet some Senators and House of Representatives’ members who were almost deceived and caught in the web of lies and falsehood had since retraced their steps back to the mainstream of the party folds. We say kudos to these patriots for their nationalistic decisions, the statement added”.
“As true democrats, we want to once again assure President Buhari that we are solidly behind him and in support of his people-oriented policies aimed at helping to solve the over 16 years of decay in our economy, which he inherited”.
It declared “who is afraid of “looters and daylight thieves”? Nobody! Not even President Buhari. The die-hard defectors have discovered that the coast is turbulent for their political relevance which was not people-based. By their calculations, if nothing is done as usual to cause confusion, they will all drown, hence the defections”.
It added, “we thank God for the person of President Buhari; we thank God for the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshoimhole and other leaders of the party particularly Chief Bola-Ahmed Tinubu”.

“We in Cross River State, it said have a lot to continually thank President Buhari for and we want to thank him for the most recent approval of N8.9billion by the Federal Executive Council for the construction of a new bridge in Ikom to replace the aged-long overhead Bridge which had been hindering commerce. With the new bridge, big cargo trucks from the soon to be revived Calabar Port will no longer be hindered. Our economy is on the right direction”.
