Chairman of Suleja Local Government Council in Niger state and his Vice have been suspended from office with immediate effect for alleged abuse of office, misappropriation, mismanagement and other sundry excesses.
The suspended Council Chairman, Ahmed Dikko and his Vice, Abdullahi Ma’aji got the boot following the vote of no confidence passed by the council’s legislative arm for their conspiracy in selling landed properties belonging to the council and other acts of sharp practices.
In their place as executive heads, the head of the council’s legislative arm, Hon Abdullahi Abubakar will stand in the garb as interim Chairman for the council to avoid vacuum.
The state Governor, Abubarkar Sani Bello has raised a three man committee to investigate the allegations of financial misappropriation and high handedness levelled against the suspended duo.
The investigative committee is headed by Justice Musa Abdul of the state High Court and it is mandated to look into the allegations against the two elected officers within two weeks and report back to the Governor.
The Governor while inaugurating the committee, said leadership requires uprightness. He explained that the appointment of an interim chairman from the legislative arm was to forestall vacuum in the administration of the affairs of the council.

“Following the suspension of the Chairman and his Vice, there should not be a vacuum and this is why we are appointing the Leader of the House to act pending the outcome of the Committee’s investigation” he said.

He charged the committee to ensure justice and fairness in the discharge of its duties. He urged the members to be careful in the execution of their assignment. “You must be just, fair, humane and as objective as possible” he said.

The suspended Suleja local government chairman, Ahmed Dikko and his Vice, Abdullahi Ma’ajin are being accused by the legislative arm of the council of disposing lands and other property of the council without due process nor in consultation with members of the council for approval.

The Speaker of the Suleja Legislative Council, Abdullahi Abubakar had earlier notified the Niger State House of Assembly of the decision of the Council to suspend the Chairman and Vice Chairman for three months until they were cleared of the allegations raised against them.
