AMA Medicals Will Export Products To Africa – Okonjo-Iweala

The Director General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Thursday, said  that AMA Medical Manufacturing Plant Limited is about trade, hence it  is not only about producing for Nigeria, but to Africa. 

Dr. Ngozi Iweala  who was excited to declare open AMA Medical Manufacturing Plant during the ground breaking ceremony with the  support by other dignitaries  at Kudenda Kaduna State, expressed this at the event. 

Iweala  said it is a pleasure to be in Kaduna, although sad, because of people of Kuriga who are in pain, while commending the security forces and urging them to do more.

She said, “what you see in Kaduna is a future  opportunity, it is the begining  of the creation of pharmaceutical company in the country.

“I urge AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED) to comply with NAFDAC and African standard to ensure that their products  maintain quality.”

She emphasised that, “Nigeria ,  Africans  and international organisations have  roles to play to AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED) in this direction that will lead the country to higher level.”

Earlier, the Governor of Kaduna State  said  that AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED) investing into the state is really commendable and it will go a long way in complimenting the Kaduna State Government’s efforts at enhancing health development in the state.

“AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED) is a pharmaceutical company located in Northern Nigeria, situated in the Kudenda Industrial layout in the capital city of Kaduna State, which produces high-quality lifesaving Intravenous Fluids (IV Fluid).

“Not only in Kaduna State, but Nigeria as a whole, what they have done today I have no doubt in mind when the project is completed, it will be one of  the biggest healthcare manufacturing companies in Nigeria in terms of vaccines manufacturing, syringes and many other important medical  manufacturing equipment,” he said.

He said, “what  is happening today will go a long way in creating a lot of opportunities for our people, it will create jobs, it will increase the level of healthcare development and increase the healthcare value chain. Generally it is very important.

“In Kaduna State, we consider  healthcare as one of the important areas of our focus that is why we budgeted  over fifteen per cent of our budget to healthcare in the state.

“We will do everything to support AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED)  to be able to achieve whatever they have planned to do here in Kaduna, hence it will help us generally.

“The state is working closely with AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED)  to this level because Kaduna State has given them support and we will continue to support them,” he said.

Uba Sani pointed out that Kaduna State is number one in ease of doing business in the whole of the country.

“We have most comprehensive task regime in Kaduna State, many people find it very easy to come and  invest in Kaduna State and I have no doubt on my mind about our collaboration with AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED)  it will also attract a lot of investors.

“We have them from, Dubai, India,  Indonesia, Morocco who are with us in the state and are willing and ready to work with AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited (AMA-MED)   in Nigeria.  I have no doubt on my mind they will be the best and the leading company in terms of  healthcare manufacturing in the whole of Nigeria,” he expressed.

In a brief remark, the coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate  commended the medical groups for a good job,  based on  many facilities put on ground.

He said, the effort is inter-related with state and federal government to deliver and fix the facilities to enable them to succeed as local manufacturers, assuring that the  government will ensure they remove every obstacles from  the health sector.

According to him,  “it is time to focus on the mission to produce what the country needs at this time.”

He called on others to emulate, “hence  this will create jobs for our youth, I encourage everyone to pay attention and invest on health to the benefit of the people.”

In her goodwill message, the Director General NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye’s said  that  as an agency, it has the mandate to regulate and control the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale and use of drugs.

“Also, cosmetics, chemical, detergents, medical devices and packaged water generally refered to as ‘Regulated Products’.” She said.

According to her,  the mandate puts a burden on the agency to lead the fight against standard and falsified medical products, both locally manufactured and imported.

“However, the goal of NAFDAC is to ensure that medical products in circulation are of the quality standard required and safe for public use.

” NAFDAC is keen in supporting and ensuring such is strictly adhered to for the interest of the public.

“With the setting up of huge manufacturing plant with expectation of high production of output, it will contribute immensely in ensuring job creating as well as boosting of the nation’s GDP,” she  said.
