Ebonyi State University has been totally shutdown by Non Academic staff Union of Universities (NASUU) and other unions like SANUU, among others, who closed down the university over non payment of salaries, allowances and diversion of pension contributory fund.

Most students were stranded over this development as academic activities were grounded by the unions.

The leaders of the union jointly shutdown all academic activities and the school gate was also closed down to drive home their demands.

Speaking to newsmen about the matter, the Chairman of NASUU in Ebonyi State University, Comrade Okoro Basil  and  counterparts from other unions, said that they embarked on the protest and shut down the school because their salaries and allowances have not been paid as at when due.

They lamented  that the last time they received salaries was in the month of February 2023 and further lamented that the contributory pension scheme they are deducting from their salaries are being diverted and not remitted appropriately.

They stated that the school will remain closed till they meet up with their demands.

Some students like Ifeanyi Ugwu, Akam Solomon, Emilad Oke, among others, expressed surprise over the recent issue.

As at the time of filling this report, many students  were seen hanging around, while some were stranded over the unexpected closure of the school.
