Strike: ASUU NCC to meet Saraki, Senate team again next Monday – ASUU President

President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Biodun Ogunyemi hinted that the union’s National Coordinating Committee (NCC) is to meet again with the Senate team led by the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki next Monday 21st November, 2016 to continue dialogue.
Professor Ogunyemi who stated this in a Bulletin sent to ASUU branches on Thursday lauded members of the union over the ongoing one-week warning strike.
The ASUU President asked members of the union to “remain resolute and make sure no lecture, supervision and statutory meetings take place” adding that the ASUU National Coordinating Committee had “met with a Senate team led by the Senate President, representatives of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour and Productivity”.
“The meeting discussed all the issues involved in the strike,  i.e: Funding for Revitalisation of Public Universities based on the FGN-ASUU MoU of November, 2013; Non – release of subvention to State Universities by their Visitors; Registration of NUPEMCO;‎ Payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA); Shortfall in salaries leading to payment of fractions of Staff Salaries ; Non – payment of salaries of staff in the Staff Primary Schools; Exemption of Universities from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) Policy and Renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement,” he said.
Professor Ogunyemi stated further “resulting from the meeting, a further discussion was scheduled for Monday 21st November, 2016 to continue the dialogue”.
Emphasizing that “ASUU received favourable report that the warning strike is solid in all zones” the ASUU President noted that the union’s National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC) commended all ASUU members “for their steadfastness and obeying the directive of National Executive Council (NEC)” saying, “united we bargain, divided we beg!”
