Stop using fireworks, explosives during Christmas celebrations -Ajimobi.
By; Bayo Akamo, Ibadan.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi has warned the people of Oyo State especially the youths against the use of fireworks and explosives during the Christmas celebrations.
The governor handed down the warning in his Christmas message to the people of the state  on this year’s Christmas celebrations made available to journalists in Ibadan.
He also cautioned the people against careless handling of
combustible materials to guard against destruction of lives and
property.
According to the governor, the warning became necessary in order not to play into the hands of criminal elements, who have been found to always hide under the guise of celebratory fireworks to rob during the
end-of-the-year festivities.
Ajimobi emphasized that there is the need for the people of Oyo State to be more security conscious at this particular period of the year by embracing modesty in celebration and be security-conscious during the season, which always witnessed upsurge in criminal activities.
He then charged Christian and Muslims in Nigeria to use this year’s Maulud and Christmas to pray for sustained peace, progress, economic revival of the country as well as to use the period to rededicate themselves to the worship of the Almighty and to emulate the sterling lifestyle of both messengers of God.
The governor also urged Nigerian and the people of the state to remember the less-privileged in orphanages, homes, hospitals and prisons during the season by extending love to the inmates through visits, gifts and money, adding that as the nation grapples with the fallout of the economic
downturn, there is the need for the privileged ones among us to be their brothers keepers.
The governor lauded the fighting spirit of citizens and workers in the face of biting economic realities, assuring the people that the state government was working hard to turn around the fortunes of the state in the coming year.
While assuring citizens of adequate protection, the governor reminded all and sundry that the full weight of the law would be brought down on troublemakers and outlaws that may attempt to test the resolve of the Police and other law enforcement agents during the yuletide season.
