The traditional leader of the Kanuris in Lagos, Mai-Kanuribe of Lagos, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammed has expressed deep concerns over the state of insecurity across the country, calling on the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to brace up to the challenge.
The wake up call emerged  in an open letter he personally wrote to the IGP same day the former cautioned in an address in Lagos that insecurity and other challenges will tear the country apart if not properly managed.
Idris, who spoke at a public presentation/ launch of his book titled “Security and Justice: The Pathway For Peace and Reconciliation in Nigeria” had said, ” i have watched with troubled heart, the security challenges confronting this country. The challenges of book haram in the north east, the challenges of  kidnapping and armed robberies, cattle rustling and militancy in virtually all parts of Nigeria, the farmer/headers clashes, the challenges of unnecessary political rilvary and struggle for power , the challenges of conflicts among the divergent communities which often times take violent dimensions and occur along the fault lines of ethnic religious, regional and political differences between divergent groups and communities.
These challenges if not properly managed at the pace we are going coupled with inflamatory and inciting statements will tear this country apart and drag us into an unending crisis “
Mustapha, a member of the Borno traditional emirate council also frowned at the performance of the Borno State Commissioner of Police, citing his inability to curtail the incessant bombing attack by insurgents in the state.
Emphasising that it is the constitutional duty of the police all over the world to ensure the internal security of the nation, the Lagos Kanuris traditional head said it behooves on the police boss to evolve the most intelligence approach and strategy in partnership with other service chiefs to tame the worsen security situation.
In addition, Mustapha queries the reason behind the inability of the joint security armed forces to nip in the bud the security breaches across the country inspite the presence of top security operatives in the trouble zones.
His words, ” It is a notorious fact that the security situation in some part of the country is disturbing. The questions begging for answer are that with the commissioners of police in the 36 states of the federation, area comcommanders and DPOs, Bridgade Commanders and commanding officers working under them, Directors of State Security Service and its personnel, is it that these security outfits are not up and doing or that the criminals and their cohorts have outplay them in their dexterity?
The Inspector General of Police should measure up to expectation as police institutions all over the world are in charge of internal security of the nation”.
According to the open letter dated 15th February, 2018, made available to newsmen at the weekend, the Mai-Kanuribe commended the commissioner of police Lagos State Command Edgal Imohimi and his Yobe state counterpart for their uncanny efforts I’m tackling the security challenge in the states.
He therefore enjoined other commissioners of police to emulate the performance of their Lagos counterpart at ensuring that their states are safe and peaceful to live in.
“The commissioner of police in Lagos state has performed creditably well to the admiration of all Lagos residents, as he is working tirelessly with his team and have reduced crime in Lagos to the barest minimum.
The commissioner of police in Yobe state is also trying and putting his best as no any form of bomb attack or other crimes has occurred since he came to office. The Borno state commissioner of police should braze up and curtail the incessant bombing happening in Borno metropolis, as this is too bad”, he said.
