The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria have commenced the two weeks nationwide warning strike.
The  unions have directed their members  to immediately proceed on the two weeks warning strike beginning from  Monday after their separate congresses held at their secretariats.
Addressing newsmen shortly after their separate congress meetings at ABU Zaria, the SSANU Chairman, Comrade Mohammed Yunusa said the warning strike was premised upon the failure of government to implement agreements it entered with the unions despite series of MoU and MoA since 2009.
Comrade Mohammed Sunusi Garba of  Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) said the Federal Government has failed to meet up with their demands which includes poor sharing formula of earn allowance, hijacked of appointments meant for their members by Academic staff, payment of minimum wage arrears among others.
It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on February 14, commenced a four-week warning strike as a result of alleged inability of the Federal Government to address its demands.
This action by the two unions has further crippled both academic and administrative activities in Nigeria’s public universities as directed by the national body of the Union’s on March 25.
Following this development, the university’s management has directed all students living in the hostel to vacate immediately as all places will be closed for security reasons.
Our correspondent who visited the main campus of the university observed that there was compliance by the union members and students were seen carrying their luggages out of the campus as directed.
