By; JACOB ONJEWU DICKSON, Kaduna.
Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, led by factional Chairman, Adamu Yusuf and dissolved EXCO Secretary, Dauda Doka, Financial Secretary, John Femi Adi and several members were on ground to receive Vanguard Correspondent, Mr. Luka Binniyat as he was released on bail from the Kaduna Convict Prison on Tuesday at about 1:30pm.
Also heavily on ground were members of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, notable among them is social activist, Ayuba Azzaman and former Attorney General of Kaduna State, Barrister Mark Jacob.
Speaking to newsmen after his release outside the Kaduna Prison, Mr. Binniyat said he has not been intimidated.
He said he was only doing his job by writing a story that he’s now being accused of fabricating.
“I was exercising my responsibility as a responsible journalist, I did all I could including reaching my gatekeepers. But as it turned out now the people that are charging me are not interested in Vanguard as a Corporate organization, it’s as if they’re more interested in me as an individual not my Principal that I represent.
“My problem now is that the State Government is now focusing on my person rather than looking at the organization that published the alleged story, Vanguard Newspaper, which is my Principal.
“Everything is, ‘You Luka Binniyat’, but I’m not discouraged by this as I’ll continue to put in the best in my profession as a Journalist”, he said.
Mr. Binniyat who was escorted into the Prison at about 4:15pm is to appear in Court to complete his bail terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Yusuf had granted Mr. Binniyat bail to the tune of N200,000 and a surety in the like sum, but he could not meet the conditions on Monday.
It would be recalled that Mr. Luka Binniyat who was earlier in the day invited by the Department of State Security (DSS), Kaduna State Command, for questioning drove himself to the Command around 10am and after interrogation was handed over to the police who later charged him to court
