Sokoto trader decries corruption by Security Agents on Nigerian roads

A Sokoto state based perishable items dealer, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad has attributed high prices of food items in the country to uncountable levies being imposed on them and the attendant corruption bedeviling such items at security check points on the roads.
The dealer was lodging a complaint on what he described as unwarranted corruption on Nigerian roads before the caretaker chairman of Tafawa Balewa local government council in Bauchi state, Aminu Umar Danbaba who was at the famous Lere perishable items market where the dealer went to purchase the commodities.
Alhaji Adamu Muhammad also appealed to the Federal government to check the excesses of unidentified revenue officers and security personnel on the Nigerian roads whose covert activities are skyrocketing prices of perishable communities in our markets, thus making the poor poorer.
According to him, it is the activities of those unscrupulous government personnel that is contributing to high prices of food items in the country, and urged relevant authorities to bring to a halt such anomalies for the common to have respite at this period of economic recession.
The dealer, while expressing concern on the number of levies being imposed and the security check points on the roads which often culminate to extorting money from them, appealed to the local government to provide necessary infrastructure to ease doing business in the famous Lere market.
The Tafawa Balewa Council Chairman, Aminu Umar Danbaba was at the Lere market where dealers from across the country troops to buy various types of perishable items, as part of his assessment tour to ascertain areas of economic potentials in an effort to improve internally generated revenue for the Local Government Council.
Danbaba who expressed confidence that the Local Government would be self-sufficient and capable of meeting the basic needs and demands of its people when people pay their taxes and levies as and when due, however warned revenue collectors against diversion and fraud, saying that anyone found wanting would not be spared.
The chairman restated the commitment of Tafawa Balewa Local Government to work in synergy with leaders of the market to enhance revenue collection and ensure security of their lives and property of the people generally.
The chairman of the Lere market, Alhaji Maiwada Cincinawa had earlier, while welcoming the council chairman assured the local government of their unflinching support to the state government and pledged prompt payment of revenue to the authorities.
