Dynamics of the 2023 election will be massively changed by the influence of Social Media, following recent threats all over the world.

Co-chair of Kaduna Local Government Accountability Mechanism (KADLGAM), Yusuf Ishaku Goje expressed this while  making a presentation on draft of LGAM Strategic Plan on day two of the Engagement On The Review Of The LocaL Government Accountability Mechanism Strategic Plan And Work-plan, held in Kaduna on Monday September 12, 2022.

According to him, 71 per cent of new registrations for Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) are youth.

“If they vote as a block, they would bring about who they support as President or other elective offices.

“Whether we like it or not, global reality is in favour of youth. Over the next two years, the level of political components will shift because of technology, youth have more information and when they have the more numbers to reorganize themselves, they will effect changes.

“These are the dynamics that are necessary. The youth have to be communicated in a language and manner they are used to if not they will be excluded. If you look at the EndSARS protests, most of those involved belong to the age grade of between 18 to 29 and used the Social Media to mobilize themselves,” he said.

According to him, aims of the LGAM Strategic Plan is geared towards ensuring a  local government system that delivers good governance as well as inclusive development and improved living standards for all residents.

He explained that the mission is,

“To establish a local government accountability mechanism in each of the 23 local government areas that will provide a permanent dialogue platform for promoting fiscal transparency and sustainability, community engagement and accountability to ensure quality service delivery.

On the Strategic Goal targeted, he said, “Local government administrations are enabled to be fiscally transparent, accountable

during service delivery and responsive to the needs of stakeholders at the community

level.

“Strategic Objectives

To promote social accountability through a co-partnership dialogue platform between state and non-state actors at the local government level.

“To support the institutionalization of local government reforms by strengthening citizens engagement frameworks:

“To increase public participation in the entire planning, budget and procurement process towards quality service delivery: and support communities to track, monitor and report on services being delivered in the area of human capital and infrastructure development.”

Partnership To Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) supported LGAM to facilitate the two-day engagement for the review of the strategic plan and work plan development for the Local Government Accountability Mechanism.
