Sick Former Concord News-Editor Begs Delta Govt For Financial Assistance

A former Assistant News Editor of the Concord Newspapers, Mr. Richard Ogie who is battling with a diseased associated with ‘kidney failure’ and ‘prostrate cancer’ on Tuesday begged the Delta State  Government ably led by Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for financial assistance to enable him seek for proper medical treatment within Nigeria or outside the country.
Ogie is also appealing to the government to help with the payment of the school fees of his four children as well as provide for the payment of his accommodation.
Ogie made the appeal when the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council led by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and other senior members of the noble profession paid him a surprise visit in Warri.
Ogie stated that he has spent close to three million Naira on drugs just to cure himself of the ailment.
He noted that there are lots of debt hanging on his neck as a result of the money he borrowed just to seek medication.
Ogie stated that the illness started with irregular urination from his male organ as well as excreta stressing that,”I have been down for close to three months now.”
“I need the State Government to give me help because this seems to go beyond individual participation.
“I need State Government efforts to help me financially to either taking me to a well known, a renowned hospital for treatment within the Country, within the region. Off course,Oghara is there or outside the Country and also help me with my children’s school fees and my accommodation.”
Mr. Richard Ogie started his journalism career over thirty years ago.
He worked with the Concord Newspaper where he rose to become Editor of Business Concord.
Ogie later moved to the Mid-Week Concord where he became Assistant News-Editor from where he joined the Diet purportedly owned by a former Delta State Governor as its Bureau Chief in Warri.
He also worked as Editor of the Reflector Newspaper in Warri. Because of the numerous challenges in the media profession, he joined the Niger Delta Standard Newspaper where he last worked as Editor for five years in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State before he fell ill.
