A renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has cautioned the National Assembly to drop the idea for the passage of a bill that seeks to equalize inheritance for males and females after the demise of their breadwinners.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi noted that the bill that seeks to conceptualize the idea of equality in inheritance for both sexes is contrary to the tenets of Islam and its jurisprudence.
The scholar at a media briefing in his Bauchi residence weekend explained that the orchestrated move by the National Assembly to pass the obnoxious bill is also contrary to the provisions of Nigerian Constitution that guarantees freedom of religion.
Maulana Dahiru Usman therefore advised the National Assembly, especially adherents of Islamic religion to steer clear of the move to facilitate passage of what he described as anti-Islamic bill in their own interest and that of the religion.
Usman observed that provisions in the proposed bill are totally in conflict with the verses of the Holy Qur’an which is the Supreme guiding principle of the Muslim Ummah bequeathed by the Creator.
He also warned that the Muslim Ummah will not take it lightly with the passage of the proposed bill lingering within the chambers of the National Assembly.
He similarly counseled the electorates to reject any of their representative found to have been supporting the proposed bill of the National Assembly
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi stressed the need for both Muslims and Christian faithful to respect the religion of one another for enduring peaceful co-existence, stability and socio-economic growth and development of the country.
The cleric also called on Nigerians generally not to relent in offering daily prayers for an end to the Boko Haram menace, saying it is only prayers that will root out such calamities befalling the society.
He further called on the Federal Government to see to the predicaments of internally displaced persons in the Northeast sub-region, and punish accordingly government officials found to have been involved in slapdash dealings with issues relating to the IDPs.
