Vice-President Inter-parliamentary Union, IPU for Africa and Senator representing Kano South, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya has called on Nigerians particularly his colleagues in the Senate to support the fight against corruption and rescue the destiny of Nigeria and Nigerians from the claws of depravity and under-development.
A statement from the office of the Senator described the battle against corruption that has held the country captive for so long as battle that must be won. It explained that the bill presented by the Kano South APC senator was intended to fire up the battle and give the electorate the deserved development and create jobs for the army of young graduates in the country.
The statement further said that the increase in social vices like kidnap, armed robbery and rape are silent protest created by idleness and frustration of the youths. The statement quoted the senator as urging his colleagues to disregard the insinuation in some quarters of the fight against corruption as being one-sided and concentrate on the way of profiling solution to the lingering case of corruption that has eaten deep into the fabric of the society causing consistent underdevelopment in the country.
According to the statement, “Senator Gaya’s bill for the establishment of a special court to fast track justice for people charged with corruption cases by anti graft agencies in the country particularly the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).” It added that “Nearly two years of President Mohammadu Buhari led administration’s battle against corruption; little seemed to have been achieved due to technicalities of judicial processes.” It urges senators to expedite action on the bill to ensure that it is passed for fast and easy dispensation of justice on corrupt cases depending in different courts across the country. It explained that if a court like the one the bill is proposing is established, some cases with intricate judicial technicalities would have been concluded.
The statement also quoted the senator as appealing to Nigerians to restrain from unpatriotic tendencies and support the government to bring the hardship being experienced in the country to an end at a short time. It said that the government is not unaware of the pains of the present, but added that the wrongs of many years cannot be righted easily. It further explained that the president and the entire APC as a party does not undermine the overwhelming support it enjoyed from Nigerians in the 2015 election but that the situation being experienced is a creation of evil that will never survive against good. It enjoined Nigerians irrespective of religion or political affiliation to keep faith alive as the government is not resting to bring back the good old days for all.
