A former Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Ademola Onafowokan at the weekend asked Sustainable Development Practice (SDP) experts in Nigeria to turn the country’s fortune for good.
The former Nigeria High Commissioner made the call while speaking as the Chairman at the 2nd University of Ibadan Development Practice Luncheon and Home coming themed: ‘Endogeneous Development and Practice for Sustainable Development’ held at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan.
Ambassador Onafowokan pointed out that the importance of Sustainable Development Practice to any society cannot be over emphasized hence the need for its experts to be ready to contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria.
According to Ambassador Onafowokan it is now time to lift Nigeria through the sustainable development experts in the country as witnessed in Ghana and some other countries of the world.
He maintained that SDP is more than before needed to bring about the expected development in Nigeria and even Africa as a whole, saying, it can turn around the fortune of Nigeria as a country for good.
Ambassador Onafowokan stressed that all what was needed for Nigeria to be lifted could be adequately made possible with the coming in of SDP experts into the system.
He then charged the development practitioners to find their ways to the ministries and other government parastatals and agencies for Nigeria to witness growth and development.
In his opening remayrk, Director Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan lauded the Center’s alumni for their support for the center and urged the present students of the center to emulate them.
The Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola while speaking, assured the center of his continued support and his readiness to continue to associate with the center.
Professor Popoola commended the Director of the Center, Professor Olaniyan and the Center’s Coordinator, Dr Olayide Olawale for upholding and sustaining the center.
In her presentation at the luncheon, Mrs Chidioma Opara emphasized the need for the Nigeryia government to make laws that will improve financial operations in the country.
At the luncheon, the Director Global MDP , Columbia University, Dr Lucia Rodriguez and some former students of the centre were honoured with awards .
