Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan, has charged all stakeholders in the country to join hands and cooperate ‎with the Federal Government to ensure effective, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
The Minister stated this in Kaduna, during the 16th National Council on Women Affairs and Social Development Meeting, saying “multi-stakeholders collaboration and building of synergy is key if the nation must meet up with the goals as spelt out by the United Nations (UN).”
She stressed that a renewed sense of collective ownership of the universal programme will lead the country on the right path of social inclusion, equitable growth and sustainable development in the interest of vulnerable persons and Nigerians in general.

“It is therefore my hope and expectation that states will give maximum support for the numerous programmes and projects being enunciated at the Federal level, by replicating same in the states to ensure sustainability.

“Nigeria has commendably demonstrated leadership in early drives to domesticate and integrate the SDGs through sub-national mainstreaming, inter-agency coordination and institutional strengthening.

“Therefore, the overwhelming necessity for inter-sectorial, inter-governmental ‎and multi-stakeholder partnerships in the programme cannot be underscored.

“So it is important to have widespread consultations through action-oriented networking with relevant stakeholders, like government at all levels, the private sector, development partners, civil society organisations (CSOs, Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs), the Media and the academia, for the development of our country’s specific priorities, action plans, key performance indicators and appropriate frameworks for monitoring and evaluation.” Senator Alhassan explained.

‎In his remarks, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Arch. Barnabas Bala Bantex, said the theme of the meeting ‘Inclusive Empowerment: A key to Achieving the SDGs Milestone’ is well thought of and came at the right time the state has already set targets for achieving the 17 goals of which Nigeria is a statutory.

Bantex noted that as the host for this edition of the meeting, the state is interested and waiting to implement all decisions arrived at during the meeting.

According to him, the government recognised the roles of women in national development with great concern, adding that “‎we have successfully established gender focal officers in all ministries, departments and agencies.

“We have trained the first batch of 45 officers to enable them function effectively. They are expected to ‎ensure gender mainstreaming in budgeting processing, formulating and implementation of programmes, projects and activities.”
