Sambisa Forest insurgents now on the run, wrecking havoc – Gurin
By; Mohammed Kawu, Bauchi.
The Deputy Controller, Nigerian Prison Service, Bauchi Command Mr. Abubakar Gurin has observed that Sambisa Forest is now hot for the insurgents who are running helter-skelter for their lives snitching into the larger population to cause a lot of havoc to the citizens.
Gurin who was speaking during a two-day workshop on roles of Private Guard companies in curbing insurgency in Bauchi, described the workshop as timely as, according to him, the disintegrating insurgents have no regard anybody in their attacks.
“This workshop is not only timely but also very important now that the Sambisa forest is very tight for the insurgents and they were running helter-skelter for their lives, and they are also running, coming to us so that they cause a lot of havoc” Deputy Controller Gurin said.
He stressed that it is the duty of security personnel to identify the on-the-run insurgents whom he stated, “are very lean, hostile and not friendly”, hence the significance of the workshop especially to security operatives both military and para-military.
The Bauchi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Mr. Donatus Ikemefuna had in a welcome address assured that training and retraining of private guards as one of the Corps’ mandate will continue to be given priority especially where stakeholders are willing to partner with the NSCDC.
Gurin said as the nation is at the verge of routing out the insurgents in the Northeast, no stone will be left unturned to make sure that such ugly development does not resurface.
He assured that officers and men of the Corps will continue to be partner in progress with governments at all levels in ensuring that citizens and residents in the country and their property are well protected.
Gurin called on sister security agencies in the state to continue to work together particularly in the areas of operations and intelligence sharing to form impenetrable wall against vices in Bauchi state.
The Vice Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, Mr. Stephen Bawa declared opened the two-day workshop which have a number of private security agencies in the state in attendance.
