Sahel Consulting Agriculture,  Nagari Seeds Organize Sorghum Brown Field Day In Ikara, Makarfi

Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Limited in collaborations with Nagari Seed Nigeria in Kaduna state  has  organized a Brown field day at it’s Kurmi kogi and Kwanar Tambai Makarfi Sorghum trial demonstration farms in Ikara and Makarfi Local Government areas.

Representative of Sahel Consulting Agriculture, Mr. Ilesanmi Pupa   said that  the Collaborative Seed Programme, which is a programme contributing to the Nigeria – Netherlands seed partnership, is aimed at boosting sorghum farming towards transforming seed companies in Kaduna State.

He said to build farmers capacity,  they established demonstration plots and advanced cultivation to ensure quality seeds into the hands of farmers.

According to him, Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Ltd, introduced the Collaborative Seed Programme to  local communities because of its important for farmers to embrace quality seed that will improve their productivity and livelihood.

The local seed expert said that  it is necessary to adopt the use of quality seeds and advanced cultivation practices, given the adverse effect of the climate change; like pest developing resistance, drought and poor soil fertility. 

Mr. Ilesanmi added that there are lot of varieties of seeds marketed by  companies that farmers are yet to identify, hence, the Collaborative Seed Programme partnering with the seed companies to assist in the marketing and promotion of quality seeds in Kaduna State, also to create an efficient linkage between the farmers and seed companies within their areas

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Agric Makarfi Local Government Area, Alhaji Ahmed Balarabe Kubau promised to patronize Nagari Seed in the next  farming season.

Kubau who expressed satisfaction with the result recorded in the demonstration farm, said that it is very important to call on farmers to always buy their seeds from reputable companies for better results.

He congratulated Nagari Seed for the well deserved success from the beginning to the end of the demonstration.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director Agric Department, Lere Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Jibrin said the Collaborative Seed Programme will assist farmers towards boosting their  production.

He advised farmers to be sincere to themselves by adopting  new agricultural technologies currently in place.

Alhaji Abdullahi assured farmers that if they follow the new method of farming, they will see improvement beyond their expectations.

Also speaking, the District Head of Makarfi, represented  by Abdulsalam Adamu Abdullahi, expressed satisfaction with what he saw during the brown field day at demonstration farm in terms of yield.

He expressed hope that farmers in the area will adopt what they saw and learnt in their respective farms.

Earlier, the collaborating partner, the Nagari Seed Nigeria Ltd,  commended the farmers for their efforts  in the trial demonstration farm.
