Sacking Of Workers: NUJ Advises Kaduna Govt To Obey Court, Decries Increase In Criminal Activities

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council has advised the Kaduna State Government to obey court orders refraining it from sacking workers.
The advise was handed out in a communiqué issued at the end of its congress at its state secretariat at the weekend, signed by secretary of the council, Dauda Idris Doka.
“The Congress welcomes the Sate Government quest for quality education but expresses concern over the retrenchment of 21,000 primary school teachers, 4,000 Local Government employees as well as hundreds in the State owned tertiary institutions and therefore advised the Government to obey the Court order in that regard,” it stated.
The communiqué also viewed with seriousness the increasing crime wave in the state, especially kidnapping and advised the government to provide adequate security or declare a state of emergency.
It further noted with concern lack of continuity, resulting in the abandonment of some projects across the state, urging the government to zealously discourage the phenomenon.
From the foregoing, the Congress resolves:
“That it lauds the Chairman for his achievements as well as some private Media Organizations that are up to date in the payment of workers’ salaries, especially, Nagarta Radio.
“It also lauds Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, and Kaduna State Chapter for organizing various awareness programmes on Maternal Mortality and Child Health as well as empowerment of members.
“Commended the State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN for successfully organizing the 2017 SWAN Week.
“Gives a one -month notice to Chapels that are yet to inaugurate their Excos to do so.
“The Congress viewed the Reconciliation issue as a constitutional matter which must be followed diligently.
“Acknowledged with delight the Award for Meritorious Service presented to the State Council by the Kaduna State Ministry for Women Affairs.
The Congress voted with satisfaction the gradual improvement on the relationship between the Council and Kaduna State Government and expressed the hope for better in the New Year.
The congress was briefed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf on his stewardship since assumption of office covering payment of secretariat staff salaries, maintenance of union vehicles, and settlement of electricity bills without external financial support
He also expressed delight at the successful hosting of a colloquium and visit to the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
He announced the dissolution of all committees and the reconstitution of that of the Welfare and the co-opting of two ex-officio members into the State Excos.
Other highlights at the Congress included briefs from various chapels and the submission of Report on the Reconciliation Committee and deliberations on the state of governance in Kaduna State.
