Following the threat of some communities in Lagos by armed robbers the State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal has directed police operatives to shoot at sight anybody found with firearms in the night.
In addition, the police boss and leaders of the concerned communities have declared a curfew in the areas between 12pm to 4am till further notice.
Edgal who gave the directive on Monday during an emergency meeting with the residents, also reshuffled the Igando Police Station formation to beef up security in the area.
It will be recalled that residents of Igando, Egan, Akesan, Afolabi and Obadore residents in Alimosho council area of the state had been under threat of armed robbers recently, as they wrote them a threat letter to prepare for their coming.
While addressing the gathering, Edgal said that a new DPO will take over immediately and that policemen that had spent up to three years in the community will be transferred.
The police commissioner added that a police post will be established in the Obadare community to be manned by operatives of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS), with two new brand patrol vehicles.
He therefore implored parents to warn their children against associating with hoodlums or flouring the curfew, saying anyone will not be spared.
“I have called this emergency meeting because of my style of policing which is community policing and safety partnership. I believe that we have a security problem and we can solve it together.
“ It has come to my notice that the good people of this community are being troubled by hoodlums. I am here to put in place measures to counter them.
“I know the DPO here had been working hard but he will be giving more responsibility, as am here with a new DPO who will be briefed and charged with the responsibility of working with you so that we don’t have challenges.
“The new DPO will also send me the list of all policemen in Igando and I will make sure that those that had spent up to three years will be transfered elsewhere.
“I am not a policeman that sits in the office. I am here so that we can identify the hotspots. Where are these hoodlums coming from because it was not like this before.
“Today, before I leave here the traditional ruler or the Local Government Chairman must provide us a place to station the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
“In addition, two brand new patrol vehicles will be deployed and four serviceable communication sets for emergency and coordination. There will also be six additional puin down points.
“Anybody caught carrying fire arms in the night will be arrested. I have told my men to use their fire arms against anybody caught with gun in the night, so be warned.” he said.
Members of the community however commended the CP and suggested strategic locations to help counter the armed robbers.
