Road Accident; Speed Limit Devices Will Save Millions of Lives – FRSC

Against the backdrop of numerous reactions, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC said the recently introduced speed limiter devices will save millions of Nigerians from untimely death during the ember months.
The Pankshin FRSC Unit Commander, Nnamdi Ikeh-Akabogu made assertion during the Ember Months Flag-off/ Rally in Pankshin Local Government of Plateau in conjunction with Airtel Mobile Telecom service and NationalUnion of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
“FRSC introduction of the speed limiter devices was with a strong belief that it will curtail the massive loss of lives that usually occur as a result of road crashes brought about by speeding and over loading.
“The Christmas is fast approaches and we felt we should undergo the ember months rally to sensitize the public especially motorists on need for them to install the speed limiter device and preserves themselves and commuters, ’’ he said.
Ikeh-Akabogu expressed gratitude to the management of Airtel Mobil Telecommunication service providers for their show of concern by partnering with the corps to sensitise the public against speeding and over loading in the ember months.
He called for the support of the NURTW leaders in making sure that their members acquired and install the speed limiter devices so as not to face the wrath of the authorities.
“I am sure all of us want do not just want to celebrate the coming Christmas but to see the new coming year 2017 hence the need for us to take precaution against road crashes.’’
“It is very easy to preserve lives if we as drivers resolve to use the speed limit devices: we believe as you all support us, we shall succeed in keeping many alive if not all to live and not die when the travel, ’’ he stated.
Also speaking, Mr Kingsley Okafor, vendor of Speed Limiter devices, explained that the devices have five functions which include, limiting speed, tracking of vehicle and recording events during the journey among others.
Okafor, who is a Manager with Osaks Digicom Nig. Ltd; a licensed importer, supplier and installer of the speed limiters said that there two types of the device.
He said that while the big one with Global Positioning System (GPS) costs N40, 000 the small one costs N35, 000 while installation costs N2, 000.
Mr Felix Ossai, Pankshin NDLEA Commandant, who commanded the efforts of FRSC at serving the lives of Nigerians on our roads, warned motorists against hard drugs while driving so as not to jeopardize the lives innocent commuters.
