The National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) Caretaker Committee has given the Chief of Army Staff Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai a 24 hour ultimatum to release the Secretary to the Rivers State government, Chief Kenneth Kobani.
The message was conveyed in a statement signed by Chairman, NURSS Caretaker Committee, Comrade Sunday Legborsi Yamaabana.

According to the statement, his arrest was politically motivated.
“It was gathered that the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Mr. Kenneth Kobani was arrested by men of the Nigerian Army for allegedly demanding explanations from INEC officials having gathered that the original result sheets were carted away.
“You will recall that a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, gave an order of interim injunction, restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from using Soldiers for the conduct of the legislative rerun that took place in the state.
“We believe the arrest of Rivers SSG by the Nigerian Army was unlawful following the aforesaid high court injunction and politically motivated,” it stated.
“Consequently, we call on Chief of Army Staff to with immediate effect, release him unconditionally or else we would mobilize more than 5000 students of Rivers State, both home and in the Diaspora, to carry out a mass protest against his continued unlawful detention,” it threatened.
