Following the increase in insecurity in Kaduna State, about 500,000 girls in five local government areas in the state are out of school and need to be educated using other platform.
This came to the fore at a two-day meeting and signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) Conference Hall in Kaduna on Tuesday December 6, 2022.
Citing a recent research conducted that indicated over 500,000 girls between ages of 10 to 18 years are out of school, the FHANI meeting pointed out five local government areas in Kaduna State that are affected, Chikun, Kajuru, Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari.
“Kaduna State of recent has been faced with all forms of insecurity, mainly banditry and kidnapping, the situation has discouraged parents from sending their children to school and it has affected girls education,” Programme Manager Rise Up Project, Grace Maikano noted.
She explained that the two-day meeting’s objective is on the need for e-learning policy to gain roots in Kaduna State.
“To support the implementation of the Rise Up Project implemented by FHANI, and to sign an MoU for the support of the project. Platforms for e- learning internet, audio, video e- books, CDs, webinars,” she said.
In his remarks, a religious leader at the meeting, Reverend Enoch Kaura said that over 30 community’s are affected by insecurity, while 38 schools are closed completely in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a remark, Rise Up Fellow Cohorts, Joy Gadani pointed out that educating a woman is like educating a nation.
She advocated for the reliance on e- learning policy in Kaduna State, in consonance with the safe schools declaration launched in Oslo on May 15, which harps on the impact of armed conflict on education and outlines a set of commitments to strengthen the protection of education and ensure continuity during armed conflict.
The meeting attracted CSOs representatives, religious leaders, media representatives and traditional leaders. .
