Rimi Youths lift Ungwar Rimi Peace Cup trophy

Rimi Youths put up a brilliant performance to beat Makama FC 2-1 to emerge champions of the second edition of the Ungwar Rimi Peace and Unity Football Competition decided on Saturday at the Rimi College Football Field, Kaduna.
First half ended with both teams sizing each other equally 1-1. Rimi Youths scored their winning goal in the second half to the delight of the spectators.
Earlier in the third place match, Green Soccer beat Mutunchi via penalties after both teams ended regulation time 1-1.
Sponsor of the competition, Engineer Yusuf Abubakar Mustapha (Best) praised the teams for putting up a brilliant performance.
He said the organization was an improvement over the maiden one, assuring that subsequent editions would even be bigger.
Also speaking, Chairman of the closing ceremony, Honourable Sabo Babayaro commended the sponsor for putting resources into development of sports in Kaduna State.
Babayaro said that he was impressed with the quality of the trophy presented, which he described as being of the same standard with the Federations Cup trophy.
He advised the sponsor to rename the competition after his late brother, Bala Abubakar, in his honour who was a local coach in his community.
Top dignitaries that were at the final included representative of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, his aide on Youth, Mukhtar Mohammed, Kaduna FA Chairman, Abdulkadir Magaji Kapaka, District Head of Unguwan Kudu Alh. Abdullahi Wada and Shehu Abdullahi.
High point of the closing ceremony was the presentation of trophies and medals to the top three teams and certificates to all the participating teams.
Some community members who contributed to the development of the community were also recognized with awards.
Twenty teams from Ungwar Rimi featured in the competition.
