Rice production: Akwa Ibom signs $100m MoU with Ashdene Group

 In his bid at ensuring food sufficiency in the state and boosting the economy of its citizens, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel signed a multi million dollars deal with a charitable organisation to engage in value-chain rice production on behalf of the state government.
This was disclosed by the governor, through a personal statement which New Nigerian got a copy of.
“We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ashdene Group, a charitable organization, reputed to have successfully executed business in about 29 countries of the world,”he said.
Governor Emmanuel noted that the MoU was in line with his administration’s industrialization policy.
“This will yield a rice farm project worth 100 million Dollars, a processing mill at Ini Local Government Area, construction of roads in host communities as well as the establishment of a coconut plantation,” he spelt out the details.
He commended Ashdene Group for their decision to partner the state in the area of agriculture, infrastructural consolidation and expansion.
