Commuters have been called upon to resist and report reckless drivers on the highways especially those without speed limiter devices to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Mr Crowford Oti, Sector Commander, FRSC Plateau, made the call in Pankshin during a one Day Workshop for Special Marshals in Pankshin Unit Command on the importance of Speed Limiter Device.
“We have done our best at enlightening the public on the importance of the speed limiter devices and what we are doing now is enforcing it; any driver reported to us will face the music.
“The general public especially commuters should be kind enough to resist drivers who are fond of over speeding on the highways and if need be report them to us action.
“Millions of lives are perishing in this country and we should rise to the challenge to change the tide for our good, ’’ Oti advised.
Th sector Commander said that FRSC was in the business of saving lives of innocent Nigerian citizens and would not tolerate abusers of the corps’ policies.
According to him, “FRSC will not go back on the issue of speed limiter device, we only advice to motorists is for them to ensure they get and install the device to avoid incurring the wrath of the law.’’
Earlier in his welcome speech, Dr. Audu Ochigbo, Chairman of the occasion, described the workshop as timely for the Mashals whose roles, he noted, are so vital on the road to monitor movements of motorists.
Ochigbo noted that saving of lives was a very serious business, which should also be that of the commuters so that they don’t fall victims of road crashes and death.
Also speaking, Mr Nnandi Ikeh-Akabogu, FRSC Pankshin Unit Commander, said that the workshop was aimed at enlightening the Special Marshals in the rural areas the importance of the speed limiter device and their roles at saving lives.
Ikeh-Akabogu explained that already the enforcement of the device had commenced and that special marshals should be proactive at ensuring that motorists keep to the polices of the Corps for the salvation of lives in the area
