Parents and  education stakeholders in Kano State  have called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to repair the dilapidated schools buildings instead of constructing new ones across the state.

Speaking with our correspondent in Kano, Malam Musa Abdullahi, a retired head teacher said that it is important to repair all the dilapidated schools in the state instead of suggesting the construction of new blocks.

He added that,  “I advice His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to repair the dilapidated schools and fully equip them with furniture  instead of  constructing new blocks as the cost of a block can repair  10 or more dilapidated classes”.

Similarly, Malam Ado Yahaya a one time  education secretary said that one of the problems affecting education in some northern states is lack of good learning facilities, especially good classes and furniture.

” It is important for our governors to embark on the repairs of dilapidated blocks instead of constructing new ones by abandoning the previous blocks,” he suggested.

Commenting on the matter, one of the parents and a member of the PTA from Ungogo Local Government Area, Malam Musa Sani said that, “our governors should commence  schools  rehabilitation programme across their domains in order to have  conducive atmosphere for learning.”

Our correspondent who visited some primary and secondary  schools reports that almost all  schools in Kano State have  problem of dilapidated roofing issues and lack of furniture as well as good floor.

It was further gathered that  in some schools, pupils sit on bare ground despite the  huge amount being spent on education.
