As the Islamic holy month of Ramadan commenced yesterday following  the sighting  the crescent as announced by the  Sultanate and other traditional rulers, residents of Kano State have appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make Naira available in cash to ease the hardship being faced by Nigerians.

Our correspondent who was at the city of Kano and some environs, reports that Muslims across the 44 local government areas in the state commenced fasting,v while local eateries and other commercial food vendors in various spots remained closed shops till after the month of Ramadan.

Similarly, people were seen at the banks trying to get money for family expenses, despite the cash shortage, which is one of the great set backs that may seriously affect this year’s Ramadan feeding.

At Sabon Gari, Badawa, some parts of Na’ibawa and Brigade where non Muslims dominated, New Nigerian observed that there was presence of food vendors and other eateries, which is habitual every year, while the Kano State Islamic Police known as Hisbah, monitored the commencement of the fasting across the city  as well as rural communities.

Speaking to our correspondent at First Bank main branch, people called on the CBN to make the cash available at ATM’s and over the counter in order to reduce the hardship suffered by  customers to cater for their families.
