Rail Mass Transit: Lagos Govt Recognizes Nigerian Railway, NIWA, Others Contributions

The contributions of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), National Inland Water Ways (NIWA) to the development of Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line system infrastructure have been acknowledged by the management of Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA).

Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, announced the appreciation while highlighting the input that resulted in the successful completion of the first phase of Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line.

She described Nigerian Railway Corporation as “our big brother in rail operation and regulator within the industry.”

Other organizations recognized by LAMATA are Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

Akinajo said that News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), management of National Theatre, Super Phosphate Fertilizer Company gave land to achieve the alignment for the Blue Line. 

“I will not forget to mention Seaview and Gaslink for their assistance.

I want to thank our contractors led by Messrs. CCECC (China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation), consultants, all our stakeholders that have provided one form of service or assistance one way or the other to get us to where we are today,” she said.

The LAMATA chief disclosed that Lagos State government used a window of funding by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which pooled Access Bank PLC, Fidelity Bank PLC and Sterling Bank PLC together to fund the completion of infrastructure for the first phase, which is about 13 kilometres of the 27 kilometres stretch.
